It was another strong day on the track for the warrior’s as they finished second overall as a team with a total of 79 points at the Hammond Morton Jesse Jones Invitational. It was a great team effort as the very diverse warriors scored all over the place in bunches finishing top three in almost every single event.
For the distance runners senior Justin Powell took third overall in the 800 meter run, and was also a part of the the 4X800 meter relay team that took second place in the meet. Along with this, sophomore Tyler Dowd ran two great races that day finishing second in the one mile and first in the two mile with a time of 11:06.00.
As for the sprinters junior LeeVonte Kelley had himself another terrific day. For his individual events Kelley placed first overall in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.59, and also finished third in the 100. Kelley was also a part of the 4X100 and 4X400 meter relay teams that took second and third overall in the meet. Along side Kelley was junior Peyton Hewlett who took third in the 400 and was also a part of the 4X400 meter relay team. Hewlett also got it done in the field events winning the high jump at 5ft 08in.
Finally for the hurdlers and field event athletes. Sophomore Joel Montenegro won the 110 high hurdles with a time of 16.40 and was accompanied by junior Aaron Brown who finished third in the race. Montenegro also got it done in the 300 low hurdles finishing the race in third place and was also a part of the 4X100 meter relay team. Senior John Springer had a great throwing day winning both the shot put and discus with throws of 46ft 10in and 108ft 06in. Springer also got help from the young sophomore thrower Franco Komyatte who finished third overall in the discus throw. Finally, sophomore Jaron Nash also had a solid day finishing third overall in the long jump, and also ran in the 4X100 meter relay.
Overall it was a great effort by the warriors as they continue to get better and better each and every day, preparing themselves for the postseason.
