Bishop Noll captured its 26th sectional championship (10th since 2002) Monday, beating Whiting by a final score of 6-1 in front of a packed house at Oil City Stadium.
The Warriors played a complete game, clicking on all cylinders offensively and defensively. Senior ace, Zach Hoffman (5-2), pitched a complete game and held Whiting hitters in check all afternoon. The right-hander allowed only one run on four hits while striking out 11.
Sophomore second baseman, Jake Fuehrmeyer, led the way at the plate for Noll, going 4-4 and picking up clutch RBI’s in two of his at-bats that helped keep the Warrior ahead of Whiting all game.
“I’m really happy with where we are right now,” said Noll head coach Tony Hoolehan. “Last year’s team was built around defense and pitching, and this year we’ve become a complete team. I’m also very proud with our team’s mental approach heading into Sectionals – something that we’ll focus on again for Regionals.”
Noll is now 17-11 on the season and will face off against South Adams (15-12) at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 3 in the semi-finals of the Whiting Regional at Oil City Stadium. If the Warriors win, they will play later that evening (6 p.m.) in the Regional championship game against the winner of Hebron and Eastside.
