Meet Recap

Bishop Noll Institute beat Marquette Catholic 3-2 in a non-conference match today. This was another close and exciting match that could go either way. Our #1 Doubles team (juniors, Franco Komyatte and John Wea) final result was the decisive match determining tonight’s winner. It was a split set and they had to play a 10-point tiebreak since there were not enough daylight to complete a full third set. The tiebreak was head to head until the end. Both Bishop Noll and Marquette Catholic had two match points each but could not convert…..not until John Wea set up the winning poach for Franco Komyatte to put away the third match point to win the tiebreak (13-11) for our #1 Doubles match and also won the entire match for the team. Our #2 Singles, junior Ameer Lawrence, had a long match and won in straight set along with our #3 Singles, senior Blake Rentschler, also won in straight set. Our #1 Singles and #2 Doubles fought hard but lost. This was truly a team effort. This is the first time that we have beaten Marquette Catholic since 2014. This is the best regular starting season so far in four years under Head Coach Eric Medina (’80) and Assistant Coach David Loo.

#1 Singles: Chris Gordon (12)-BN lost to Buddy Jaffee (12)-MC (6-0, 6-1)
#2 Singles: Ameer Lawrence (11)-BN beat Jalen Russell (11)-MC (6-3, 6-2)
#3 Singles: Blake Rentschler (12)-BN beat Chanler Goodwin (12)-MC (6-1, 6-2)
#1 Doubles: Franco Komyatte (11) & John Wea (11)-BN beat David Sigler (12) & Joe Audershock (11)-MC (6-4, 4-6, 7-6)
#2 Doubles: Giovanni Komyatte (10) & Joey Gruszkowski (11)-BN lost to Cormack Bardol (10) & Sean Bardol (9)-MC (6-4, 6-3)

Our overall record is now 7-1 and conference record is 3-1. Our next match is scheduled on September 13, 2017 at 4:30 p.m. against West Side High School at home (Piatek court) in Whiting. GO WARRIORS!!!!
