Being a successful athlete is a difficult task, but two BNI Cross Country runners make it look easy. Senior Megan Sullivan and junior Tyler Dowd are excelling in two fall sports this year. Both athletes are members of the Soccer, Cross Country, and during the spring both participate in the Track programs. Dowd and Sullivan excelled at this years annual New Prairie Invite.
Megan placed 4th out of 204 and was named the Post Tribune Runner of the Week. “Running has shown me the potential I didn’t know I had,” said Sullivan. “It feels good!” Her goal for track this year is to make it to state in the 800. A captain for both soccer and CC, Megan had 14 goals and 9 assists this season. As for next year, she is planning on picking the college that fits her academically and then determine if she can run there. She has met with the Butler University track and cross country, but is also considering Notre Dame and Purdue.
Tyler took 3rd place out of 281 runners at the invite and excited about accomplishing a personal best. Dowd was able to meet and take a photo with his idol, marathon runner Carey Pinkowski. “He is a legend, he is my favorite runner.” “Soccer is good this year too. Best game was against Marquette. I was playing out of mind! Stopping everything.” Dowd’s goals for track this spring include winning the City meet and making it to state in the 1 mile, 2 mile, and the 4×8. As for the future, Dowd plans to run in college and is looking at Purdue, ISU, IUPUI, and Butler.
