Warriors News · Student Athletes of the Month

Congratulations to our Student Athletes of the Month of December, Emily Sutton and Giovanni Komyatte!

Girls basketball Junior Guard Emily Sutton has been a major contributing factor for the Lady Warriors to a 15-0 record in December.

Emily went 4 for 4 from the field goal and came up with two steal at pivotal moments in the Lady Warriors victory over #1 ranks Centerville, Ohio.

This is Emily’s third year as a Varsity player and first year as a starter.

Emily has improved her game, but her attitude is what tremendously helps the team. She consistently leads by example.

Without her hustle plays, willingness to play her role, willingness to do the small things, we wouldn’t be where we are. She’s reliable and always has a good attitude no matter what the situation. Emily’s off season commitment has been excellent and she continues to put in extra time to improve her skills. She is an honor roll student and has been a multiple sport athlete in her career at BNI.

Giovanni Komyatte is a Junior and new to swimming this year. Gio has been to nearly every practice since the beginning of the season back in October, improving every week and becoming a stronger, more confident swimmer. Unfortunately, Gio sustained a medical emergency which resulted in surgery and put him on medical leave for a month. Once he was released from the hospital, he showed up to practice the next day to observe and help as needed. Gio was able to begin practice again at the end of December and competed for the first time against North Newton as well as Gavit. His times for the 50 yard freestyle have gone from:45.03 seconds at the beginning of the season to a new PR of :33.71 seconds, dropping over 12 seconds while only have 2 weeks of practice post medical leave. He is also a crucial member of the Men’s 200 yard and 400 yard freestyle relays, helping to earn the team seconds place finishes again Gavit.  He is a determined, hard-working young man who puts forth his best effort everyday and never complains. We are very excited to see how he improves for the remainder of the season.
